I think the biggest problem is caused by an overabundance of unnecessary javascript. We're specifically working on improving the load times for the next release. There are some tricks you can do to cut down the page load times, but for now there's no quick way to do it with Pligg. Give us a couple more weeks to make some more improvements.
BTW Pligg.com is now hosted on a
DreamHost server, so we are an accurate representation of the load times you will get with their hosting.
