It appears I had limited my searches too narrowly (I've been searching for weeks). I was looking for login systems. But in writing this request for help (my first request in this process), I used the word Framework. That made me think of searching on frameworks. Apparently, CakePHP does all of the things I was wanting to do. Now, the question is whether I'll be able to comprehend it! Hope so.
