First of all more "community/social" like mentioned before.
Another really important thing is the Editor(Textform for submit News). It should be redesigned completely to one step!
And and WYSWG-Editor should be working. (like fckeditor or else)
Its important that people have an comfortable way to submit.
Oh dont forget some gimmicks like in an article you can put an image which is small, and then you click it will be larger.(i think is web2.0 ajax something of this ****)
