Some stuff I would love to see.
1. DB pruning options remove news by date range, remove the **** oldest news items.
2. Approval of all new users by admin to stop spammers.
3. Tougher anti spam measures and sign up procedures.
for instance my site
Geordies Newcastle United Breaking News / Newcastle United News is about Newcastle United football club so I would like to be able to ask a new sign up a question related to my site when they sign up instead of a simple math question. Like this

Real fans would know the answer spammers would not
4. The ability for Admin or God users to set the story as published or upcoming from the first submission page one click to publish.
5 Finally the ability to give spammers a slow and painful death
