friendly UR's not working the way they should work...

Hi,

I have enabled the Friendly URL's to True, but the story url shows as ... http://www.startupbug.com/story.php?...-Entrepreneurs , which makes me feel that this still is a dynamic URL.

How can i fix this?

Go to /admin_config.php?page=UrlMethod and set method to 2. I'm not even sure why the friendly url section is in the admin but I'll find out and post back here.

I changed the value to 2 in URLmethod, but i still get dynamic url's instead of static ones.

Hi,

All of a sudden, it started working. But I have a different problem now... after this started working... none of the pages with static url's seems to be working.

Another change i made was i created a copy of default theme and named it as KISS and specified to use KISS as my theme.

Any help appreciated.

First, the template name change shouldn't any problems. Try taking the .default off of the .htaccess file and see if that helps you. If that doesn't help or leads to other problems please let me know. .htaccess may need to be modified. I believe there are some issues still with url method 2 that need to be worked out.

I'll be testing this url method 2 very extensively in a few days on my own server b/c I want it for my new site as well. Ashdigg has said that only a retard won't be able to get it working now... lol .. so hopefully I can figure it out.

I removed the .default from htaccess.default file, but it still did not work though. the problem continues to exist.

I also noticed another thing like, when i navigate from the speak/spy page, the url's for the posted items still have dynamic url's... i would suggest have the same URL across the site for a given posted item. This way we would not be fooling/spamming the search engines with different url's for the same story.

I'll start trying the same thing tomorrow on my server and see if I can get anywhere with it. Hopefully Ash and others who have done this before will help walk me through it. If I figure anything out I'll post back here. If anyone else has ideas please post them.

Upgraded to 8.2.0 and am having the issue when you select number 2 for friendly urls none of my story links work.

I have the same problem. When I switch to method 2 alle external links default to the page you are already on. It seems as if there is a request made to get what's in the url at that time.

When I switch back to method 1 everything's fine again, but of course, no clean urls.
