This spam thing is killing me.

The spam attack that seems to have been launched at multiple Pligg sites wouldn't actually benefit from anything targeting specific users. The script flood your site with spam AND consistently registers more and more users to post - presumably in the knowledge that a single account is easy to recognise as a spam site and delete.

So, even if you can stop them registering more users - you've still got dozens (or even hundreds) of bogus users to deal with.

A very basic Akismet anti-spam module is available here. Please let me know (in that thread) if it works. Also, it only monitors NEW submissions and comments, will not do anything about existing stuff.

My pligg site is one that is affected by this spammer. I got 200+ new users and comments this morning. I am going to try Akismet anti-spam.

@Ashdigg - is this a solution to prevent this spammer attacking pligg-sites??

no it's just to stop spam in general and was NOT created for this particular spammer.

I can only suggest you try the nice mod Ash has made for us. I'm trying it right now so I'll let you know if it's successful

I have installed akismet 04 and it works... partially.

I suggest captcha in comments.
Better captcha register.

Please, we need to do something for this HUGE problem. I have hundreds of spam users.
