The solution provided by ash stop the new registration, but bot still attacking the register.php that eat to much resources of the server even registration is not successful.

You can try and block the bot (if it identifies itself as pycurl) using the htaccess addition described in this post:

HELP! I'm getting spammed!

Would be interesting to know if it works, or not.

I used the .htaccess fix and it works...for now. a developer friend of mine tells me that "In Curl, one can spoof USER AGENT as IE or Firefox. So really need something better."

So for what its worth, its a stop-gap measure until the registration has a better, more permanent solution.

Oh and don't try to go to mysql and delete all the spam users and comments, your front page wont work...

I have deleted mine via mysql phpmyadmin and don't get any problem
