Pligg 9.9.0 and Karma

Two questions, and I already know I will get burned for asking one of them since it was just announced, but I am just trying to gauge timing on it since I am in the process of hiring developers for a fairly large endeavor and would like the latest code possible for obvious reasons (also, note I will provide any mods for free as I build this project out):

1. When is 9.9.0 anticipated? I know, I know...I shouldn't ask, but is there any range of dates it might come in? If you can't answer (admins) I get it...just trying to gauge for my development team as I stated above.

2. Karma - this works in the current build correct? How does it work? It is pretty different from the original meneame fork correct? They work such as this:

Increase Karma

1. Positive votes received by a story.
2. Positive votes to a published story if the vote was given before the story was published.
3. Negative votes to a finally discarded story

Decrease Karma

1. Negative votes to a not finally discarded(published) story. (0.25)
2. Negative votes received by a story.
3. Positive votes given to a finally discarded story.
4. Negative Votes to more than 3 stories in less than a minute.
5. Five days without voting at less 4 stories.
*** I have also noticed by playing on their site that if you vote for more than 1 story in a certain time (like seconds between each other) it will give you a negative karma score since it knows you probably aren't reading what was in that story or what it was about) - not sure though since I can't read Spanish, but you can try yourself.

Do Not Change Karma

1. Positive votes to an already published story.
2. Negative votes to a discarded story if the vote was given 1 hour after the story was submitted.

I have not noticed any fix (here or svn) for KARMA since I posted this thread: Star Vote Problems 9.6 - 9.7

I will donate $50 if someone will give me an indication as to when 9.9.0 is expected. :)

What are you expecting from 9.90 anyway where you need to know anyway.

"We've developed many new free modules that have expanded the abilities of Pligg. Anti-Spam modules that help reduce spam submissions and spam comments. A CAPTCHA module will allow you to choose from different CAPTCHAs or even use none at all. There is a new Template Manager module that allows templates to be installed with the click of a button instead of downloading, unzipping and uploading each file."

Plus, I just like to know these things.

My guess is that you will still have a dilemma either way. I think you're better off going with 9.82, as v1.0 will likely be out very soon after 9.9, and considering 9.9 will likely be the last "beta" version they put out, I suspect v1.0 will be pretty different from 9.9 as far as the core is concerned. Pligg is still new, thereby many changes will continue to occur in coming months... at least this is what happened with Joomla and Drupal, and sometimes the changes are VERY dramatic.

CRAP! :|

I guess I just need to go with something. I am trying to get this project going, and there will be pretty significant mods. I didn't realize 1.0 was going to be that different. I thought 2.0 was where the code would be completely revamped...1.0 was just some bug fixes. Am I missing something here?

Well, I can't say for sure that v1.0 will be all that different -- but I can say that 9.82 runs MUCH better than 9.6, therefore I am making the assumption that it (v1.0) will be very different as well. Besides, from the newsletter I got, it was mentioned that 9.9 was better than 9.82 as far as speed and queries go. But again, it's not out yet, so who really knows for sure besides the core developers?

If you're doing mods, then I'd start now with 9.82. There are some great mods on here already and from what I have tested, 9.82 is pretty strong. There are some speed issues with Pligg overall regarding queries in my experience, but nothing too major. It's pretty solid really. My only real complaint is the way pligg handles the .htaccess, meta and title tags. I can only hope they address this issue in v 1.0 where you can change the meta data according to pages, categories, etc. in the backend. That would be pretty sweet.

Bottom line, whenever you customize a site like Joomla, Drupal or Pligg, you're going to face issues whenever there is a security update. The best remedy is to have a good webmaster is affordable with updating the site or have the ability to do it yourself.

Take the plunge -- go for it! Get version 9.82!
