Karma - Best Methodology

I know people are trying to get karma working, but what do people think is the best methodology for karma? In other words what would be the fairest way to use this?

I am looking to get a developer to help out on this piece and will be willing to share the code once done, but I wanted everyone's input on what the algorithm should be for this.

I'd like to see karma working too but I have no idea how this would work.

I would like it if the comment votes were included in the karma rating.

I agree. I suppose there are really two sides to this as well - how is your karma scored in the community by what you do (how do you get positive points, negative points, etc) and then how does karma fit into the story promotion method. I am going to try to pay a developer to do this, but I need to know what you all want in terms of a framework for this.

Let's hash this out - what should be the point system? Then what should be the threshold for a story getting promoted?

I suggest that you study the Meneame code for this. It may decrease what you pay the developer as he simply needs to get it working in Pligg.

I think the point of the karma system in Meneame is to give more wait to the votes from a regular member who votes for a varied number of entries. Negative karma is given for auto-promotion, spam, etc.

If you were getting it fully custom I would suggest making actions increase and decrease Karma configurable by the site admin. So actions are votes, submissions, comment, etc...maybe you don't want comments to add to Karma so you can take that out of the calculation. Etc...

Adding that flexibility would be quite useful given the wide variety of Pligg sites that are being implemented.

just my $.02

thx

It would also be nice to be able to define Karma points in the User Management section. Then the Admin can setup users with different Karma levels as moderative authority, etc.
