Customizing Pligg search engine

Hello everyone,
I would like to customize the way Pligg's search engine search through my articles.

Can I modify the search engine itself in order to create a multi-criterias search form, and perform a customized search using these criterias ?

Say, I have a basic "general" search field + one time field criteria. I'd like to be able to specify the search engine that the second field should be searched in my "Time" category.

I'm new to Pligg community, and I'd like to know if this kind of customization can be done.
