Positioning Adsense in Header

I add adsense at the bottom of header.tpl, but the position falls on the top bar, how can i position the adsense below the top bar?

Also how can i position adsese at the bottom of the left side bar below rss feed?

Hi
I'm not sure that it's a good idea to be putting adsense code in your overall header or footer etc as it may be against the google terms of service. I know it's not a good idea to put it in the overall header of phpbb2 forums because then it appears on login and error pages etc which is a google no no.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
