Like Newsvine adding the "regional" attribute to the stories, so we can have stories divided by cities, nations, continents....
So I should be able to read all the news from my city or what happen in Europe or USA just selecting the region.
like Netscape, forcing to put 1 or 2 top stories from each category on home page to have more various stories and avoid to let the community be too focused on few categories.

Hey, kind of coming 1 year too late into this thread, anyway here are my suggestions. From an editorial perspective, in order : - recording last login & registration IP is great, but it should be checked at login/registration-that-ends-in-automatic-login that the same IP has not connected with a different account for, say, a few hours. Now it's impossible to avoid automatically someone switching accounts and mass-voting for his story. - Users should be able to edit the story URL : <paranoic>don't agree, otherwise someone could submit an interesting link, wait for the news to make it to the front page, and then change the URL for a bad page (porn, ...)</paranoic>. - What about forcing users to vote for N stories before making them able to submit? : yeah and even more : publishing each story should always require at least N votes. N should be customizable, on my site I'd put N=5 at least. You can vote up or down. Increasing the # of votes increases the overall editorial quality. - voting on users – users with higher number of votes + karma would have more “voting power” and greater power in “community task” - like spam control. It could be sortable in time periods – could be great for competitions for “This month best user” and could claim prises : hey here I don't agree, but it depends on the project's nature. If you want the community to have full control on the content, this is fine. But in my case I want to draw a clear editorial line. I intend to identify super contributors, who have clearly understood and that are very motivated by the editorial line. I want to give double voting weight for these people. Maybe less democratic, but usefull to keep the focus on your editorial line. So in my opinion, considering also others, Pligg should have a very flexible voting system. After all isn't voting the core idea of Pligg & others ? - feature I'd like to see is a VOTE DOWN option that has equal weight and equal functions to VOTE UP (eg., instant) yeah totally, but don't agree with the negative score option (I don't want anybody to feel humiliated by my site). From an ergonomy and technical perspective, in order : - captcha registration page : javascript link on "refresh" to reload the page, some people don't know how to refresh a page (yeah I tell you !). - URL rewriting : don't allow multiple _ : a_wonderfull_week__end is bad visually IMHO. - PM link on the News management to send a custom message (editable) to explain why the news has been rejected. - "site under maintenance " feature : yeah. - PM without having to "add to my friends". - "admin links" should be renamed to "edit" or "modify" since it's the same text when the users want to edit their submission - URL rewriting : use - instead of _ ? Google had problems with _ but it's OK now, what about other search engines ? Last edited by guix; 08-12-2007 at 01:56 PM.. Reason: some air between the lines |

| One Click Install of New Themes
Wordpress has a great plug-in that lets you put in a URL that goes to some kind of theme installer database, and you can install and uninstall themes easily this way. It would be great if Pligg had this feature too.
