I think that the CSSZenGarden approach to design would be the most correct one just from scratch. It is not more used because many of this FOSS projects are not matured in concept before starting to code.

The system should have all <XHTML> hardcoded in a single template (or several) with dinamic positioning using <DIV>s for everything and designers will only have to deal with a CSS (or several) to totaly modify their Pligg website.

If you use the Ajax Prototyped-Window libs I mention a little bit earlier in this same post you can also "template" the popup windows to fit the design with the same CSS only approach.

I think a really good idea for creating new users would be to allow them to comment on a story before they make an account using just a name and an email address.

On the comment confirmation page, another input field can request a password and an invitation to join the community. I think it would be an easy way to boost membership.

It would also be awesome if users could search for one another by cell number. it's kinda hard to get users to give this information over, but it makes finding friends in your community easier if you can find them by phone number. it's more attached than an email and a better ID. I think it's a feasable piece of information to collect as long as your privacy policy states you will never call them and no one else will ever see the numbers.

Only Display Story Title

Is this included in the new pligg, an option to display only the story title/link on the front page, and when the link is selected, it goes to the story.php which will then include the story summary etc.

This will give value to the story.php page from the user perspective.

Has anyone hacked this?

noyp, I've added this to the feature request list. This shouldn't be too difficult, but may take some take to get to. If you'd like to work on it please feel free and post the mod back here. In fact some areas of pligg were like this until recently. I'll have to go back and look at the changesets to see what was changed or maybe kb will post. I think he's the one that made the changes back then.

Here's my wishlist:

ability to change category on a story
ability to add tags to a story (change/delete too, for an admin)
Multiple levels of categories (sub categories)

I wrote an RSS injector for one of my sites (http://www.networkstrike.com) and I'm not quite at the level to be able to determine the category or tags at the time of injection, so it would be nice to be able to add them later.

How about instead of sumitting a story/hyperlink. just have a text field like this forum uses to submit a post. but then still have the users rate the story. and also ba able to reply to the post just like a forum,

I guess what I am trying to say is make a forum option with user rating system.
