hey

from a design point of view, i would make everything a hell of alot easier to design for.

i would use standard naming conventions throught pligg and prefix all styles with the area of the site they link to, as finding out what a style is when your looking through css can be a ballache.

ie. sidebar-search {} header-logo {} main-p {} vote-box {}

.... so if its in the title in header.tpl file and it's styled, then it should be headertitle {}

just makes it easier to trace where a style comes from.

You really should try to fix all these bugs!

Pligg is really cool, but there's so much bugs!

Complete it! (I was really dissapointed by the "delete category" feature...

Try to make it less buggy, and after we'll talk about ideas!

Ideas like:
- A nice admin interface, such as something else then links.
- Some neat features like a forum for community talking.
- Everything more Web 2.0, like more eye-candy through the app.*
- A way to translate EVERYTHING. (no more untranslable 'published news' and 'queued news'!)

* The front page is nice, the story page too, but the rest hurm...

So this is my opinion!

I have an idea that I wrote about. Rather than reposting the entire thing you can read and see a diagram here.

Wide Area Social Networking

It basically describes how to get article submission to act as a threaded forum on a Pligg like website.

If this truly won't happen, why not first address pligg's roadmap with stabilizing CRUD+features that effected an unfortunate fork of pligg:

# 1-step story submission - delicious.
# Stories submitted, discussed, and promoted are saved to user profile.
# Promote the stories you like, report (bury) the ones you don't.
# Vote users up or down.
# Comment on any story.
# Discussion comments are nested by default, but can be displayed flat.
# Story's and comments now feature 'print this' capability.
# Find information fast with our exclusive Sortbar technology.
# Create Topics and Sub-topics.
# View 'Breaking' news headlines alongside Popular news stories.
# Optionally save story 'favorites' and 'bookmarks' to your local hard drive.
# E-mail stories to friends and family.
# View related stories, related 'tags', embedded video, images, and listen to podcasts.
# 'Add a friend' community.
# Spy on user activity with WorldSpy Google mashup.
# Build credibility with other users via Karma2.
# Animated menu's and vote boxes.
# Ajax registration system.
# Admin enabled Blogging.
# Built-in Ecommerce capability.
# Dynamic meta-tags.

Most of the material is already in Pligg. Don't even get me started on the things SuperGu lacks that Pligg has. Too bad 3d is paying Zeegal thousands of dollars for basically a pligg clone with a nice template.

# 1-step story submission - delicious. Ash has been working on a really nice one step submit process. It's basically done
# Stories submitted, discussed, and promoted are saved to user profile. Already in Pligg. Savant said that he had a bookmark mod to add any story you want to your profile. Not sure what the status of it is.
# Promote the stories you like, report (bury) the ones you don't.
# Vote users up or down. Already in Pligg. Assuming he's referring to comments
# Comment on any story. Already in Pligg
# Discussion comments are nested by default, but can be displayed flat. There are already 4 sorting options for comments in Pligg
# Story's and comments now feature 'print this' capability.
# Find information fast with our exclusive Sortbar technology. Pligg has a search and works quite well
# Create Topics and Sub-topics. Ash is 95% done with sub categories
# View 'Breaking' news headlines alongside Popular news stories. Duh, this is in Pligg
# Optionally save story 'favorites' and 'bookmarks' to your local hard drive.
# E-mail stories to friends and family. Already in Pligg
# View related stories, related 'tags', embedded video, images, and listen to podcasts. All in Pligg except for "related stories"
# 'Add a friend' community. Already in Pligg
# Spy on user activity with WorldSpy Google mashup.
# Build credibility with other users via Karma2. Pligg has basic karma but needs worked on
# Animated menu's and vote boxes. If you're good with design this can be easily added to Pligg. Animation javascript is already used in Pligg
# Ajax registration system. Already in Pligg
# Admin enabled Blogging.
# Built-in Ecommerce capability. WTF does this mean?
# Dynamic meta-tags. I think this is in Pligg

As soon as I find time away from projects we're working on, I'm looking forward to learning php --- possibly rails first, so that maybe I can have a better understanding of the best framework to revitalize pligg: http://www.pligg.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2358

In case I was misunderstood in my previus post, Pligg rocks!

kbeeveer46, thanks for pointing out the specific functionality pligg already bakes in ;-)

and hiveminds, props on your wide area social networking insight!
