Pligg -> future

Yesterday I was thinking up different ways to use pligg as a framework and not just another digg clone.
I hope people will share their thoughts on where pligg will be in the future.

Blogging platform
  • Pligg supports articles to be posted, categories.
  • People can vote what they like and a commenting system is available.
  • A social networking aspect is also available.
  • Supports multi user blogging. Companies, or developers can share their ideas

Required:
  • A nice editor to add blog posts
  • Calendar to keep track of posts

ECommerce platform
  • For this one I’ll take an example of a shirt website.
  • New shirts can be posted as articles, with an image.
  • People can vote and recommend to friends
  • Recommend items that depend on your voting pattern
  • Payment module for safe transaction
  • Picture gallery for users.

Project Management

Someone posted an idea of using pligg to post new feature requests and let users vote for what they want. Similar thing can be done for bugs fixes(comes back to a blog)
Comment system

Calendar
  • Multiple users can post various events
  • A calendar page to display all the event of week, month
  • Comments
  • Group thing: You join a group and you get all the events listed on the home page. You can create a group and make your own events

Pligg still in beta stage and young so it’ll take a while until it reaches the stage where it can do these things and much more (I bet it can already do a lot of these things already)

I’m trying to work out how blocks are used in drupal and see if a similar implementation can be done. This will make it more modular, easy plug and play. It’s a bit theoretical but I’ll writeup something and post soon

So folks lets think of new sectors pligg can reach to in the future?

Now this is just an out there suggestion... probably a stupid one at that and extreme but just interested what people think about it really. Joomla has a fairly large user base. What if pligg was just a component/plugin for the joomla content management system and tie it in with community builder etc. Or, maybe as a side project... then again.. enough of those going on eh..

I really like the calendar/groups idea. If fact, I think that groups in general are a major idea all in itself.

I would love to see a groups feature similar to yahoo or google groups myself with a built in calendar that could be displayed site wide in a sidebar module.

Also, I would like to build a newsvine/myspace type personal page feature.

But hey I want to win the lottery too so what can I say. Doesn't hurt to dream.

this is good. keep going.

Pligg doesn't have to be a digg clone. Yes the backend has features that does new(articles) and stuff but pligg is also a cms. and with these ideas we can plan for later on as the code develops

I thought about doing this for the pligg developers. Where we all blog about pligg updates in the same place. Each "blogger" could have thier own category or just use Tags so you can view just thier posts.

Count me in as somebody who would be interested in a Pligg module for the Joomla CMS.

I think a calendar feature would definitely help with the communality of the boards. Users can plan events together and then vote on suggestions for the events. You could even use the rating system to see if users are interested in having the events placed on the calandar.

Joomla integration would really make this popular.

Even better, If I could use wordpress/blog with pligg like i read in the first post. That is my goal.

I totally agree your point. Do NOT replicate another forum system OR DIGG. Pligg should have it own way.

BUT IMHO , I think BLOG system is not necessary for pligg cause currently there are so many free blog system & blog hosting.

Group + gallery is KOOL !

We are just waiting the good news .

In a way, Pligg can be a blogging platform but more of each user can Blog on a per category basis within a topic.

so many blogs, so many feeds , so many search results

is it in Pligg's future to address any of these
