| I came across NewsBuffer.com which rates news based on what folks prioritize on their preferences, i.e. what users are interested in. "NewsBuffer is the community where people submit news, stories, interesting links, but other members don't have to rank them. We think there is another way to sift the best stuff on the Web. If a story you submit here can be interesting to just a few people, it won't get lost among hundreds of upcoming stories. When submitting a story here you can define a group of people who will see your story first. Women may loathe some jokes men laugh at, and men sometimes have no idea whether a woman is kidding or serious. People differ, and we just have to take it into account. The game is rather plain: the narrower is the target audience you set for your story, the higher is the position of this story in the list of targeted news. Each member of this community has two personal news lists: targeted news and friendly news. Targeted news list contains stories submitted especially for people with certain values of such characteristics as gender, age, country, and various things they like or dislike. If you are a man you won't see stories submitted for women in your targeted news. If you dislike sports you will not receive news for people who "don't dislike sports". If you like somebody's story, you can point at it by clicking on a special button, and other people having you as their friend will see it in their friendly news lists even if they are not the "target" of that story." This approach is appears to be a "smart" Social News idea. Its almost like slashdot is for nerds, digg is for techie nerds, netscape is for the non-techi etc all in one since each news is promoted according to the type of user..if i'm not mistaken. One thing for sure, PLIGG is for everyone!...make it as you wish, that certainly kicks @**. Pligg drawingboard brainstorm mod: upon submission of a new link, can this link be automatically forwarded to emails on the Pliggers mailing list? (yeah, how Pligg messanging/email list)Pligg developers and community, are there ideas from Newsbuffer that can be positive additions to Pligg's robust features? ![]() |
