is there a way to have pligg set up to allow users to write original stories stored on our websites? The reason I ask is because I would like to use it for a review site with the users being able to vote on the most useful ones. I thought I read somewhere that Pligg did have this ability but I may be mistaken.

yes is posible, just need to enable the funtion of send story without URL and they can send Editorial as we name it.

thats very easy you can do it from admin panel > Configuration > Require a URL when submitting you put there false and your user can send editorials and links storys.

EDIT: also you can hide the URL input box in that same option just read a little.
