Searching for users and add them as friend!

Hi All,

I have a small suggestion. Currently to add a friend we need to click on the poster name of any story submitted by that user, a " View profile | add to My friends" link appears and added. Or visit the user profile and click " Add tttt to my friends" to add.

But there is no way to search for users and add them - which would improve more interactivity on any site. We could have a search for users in the user.php?login=NAME&view=viewfriends which would allow to list users and a small add to friend link net to the name.

It seems that the user search is already there at Admin >> User management - which can be extended in here.

Any suggestions?

(the reason I post in here is that I made an attempt but did not understand much to get it finished - so thought just to share the idea that others can carry forward it from an idea to implementation)

That is great job and quick completion - thanks - looking forward to see it soon in the SVN

"User Name | Full Name | Join date" would do - other information are not that important.

Or we can have something like digg
"User Name Full Name Stories Dugg Stories Submitted Stories Commented On" which allows more possibility of identifying an user - the profile page will have the "Add as my friend" helping user to add from there itself - if that is the person he wishes to add. (atleast I have modified my site profile pages to have add as friend - not sure if they are available in yget template - else we will need to add it there too.)

EDIT: I'm in the process of making some minor changes so there may be another changeset or two for this new feature.

Hi kb - it works gr8 - except for some quirks with URL method 2 - for some reason - it keeps loading the same page again and again when I hit search.

I haven't tested it with URL method 2 yet. I'll do that next. Also, for some reason it doesn't like working for people who aren't logged in. I'm sure it has something to do with user.php and not assigning something unless you are logged in. I haven't had enough time to narrow the cause down.

We no need to allow this feature for users who are not logged in.
