I stumbled across this thread while searching for something exactly like this -- I'm already using CI for my project and would love to incorporate a lot of the pligg features -- are there any milestone builds or any of the 2.0 code that is available? I'd be willing to help out with the development if need be.

thanks!

AshDigg - V2.0 - I know you hate this question but...

You had stated below that a demo was coming soon. Just checking on that - I know you don't like to give dates...I don't need one other than a general this week, this month, this quarter, etc. Not trying to be rude...just checking in.

Also, do you all have a list as to what we will gain/lose from this new version when it comes out? Are we still going towards V2.0, or are you going to release V1.0 first?

A complete rewrite of Pligg has been started to
- improve performance
- ease templating
- improve language support

There are 2 'editions' that I am working with at the moment.

Not MVC) Rewritten code with various freely available classes. Not using Smarty or TemplateLite. Turns out we don't use most of the features and we simply don't need it.

MVC) Rewritten code using the CodeIgniter framework. Anyone not familiar I encourage you to checkout these videos. I've tried Cake, Symphony and Zend but I felt most 'at home' with CodeIgniter.

Code is available for review, just PM me.

Both 'editions' are at the same point in the development process. Both can
- work with Beta 9.x data
- display stories
- allow voting / unvoting
- allow submitting of stories
- allow register / login / logout

Both 'editions' are 10-100 times faster than the Beta 9.x series even without any caching enabled.

We have not decided which 'edition' to continue with. At this point in time, it looks like we will go with CodeIgniter due to the enormous amount of 'classes / features' that comes with it, and it took much less time to develop than 'non mvc' 'edition'.

Both versions are far enough along to support a 'feature request' site run on Pligg V2 for submitting / voting on new feature requests.

more information (and maybe better editing) (and maybe less single quotes ' ) to come.

The SVN for Pligg 2.0 hasn't been touched in a few months over at SourceForge. I'm not sure if its still a priority, especially since news of the sale of Pligg seems to have disappeared and one of the main impetus' for 2.0 was a Meneame free code rewrite allowing a different licensing schema. I'm totally just theorizing - have to wait for Ash or Yankidank to confirm or deny.

2.0 is suspended until we release a 1.0 version. AshDigg seems to be pretty busy lately so still no idea when we will have our next release. I'm at the point where I would rather cut the line on 1 and just rewrite 2 now that we have a better idea how it should be designed the second time around. As usual we can't give any timelines but hopefully 1 will be out in some form in a couple months at the latest. I think right now we are just working on bugfixes and more things seem to pop up each week. As usual, we will blog about it when there's something to say.

Thanks for the update Yankidank. Noticed AshDigg has been busy. :-( Understandable, but still wish he was a millionaire and could work on Pligg full-time. I just purchased a VPS slice with SliceHost and am working on deploying over there. Once that is done I hope to start jumping into the development end with Pligg a bit more and make myself somewhat useful (maybe).

I think I want to join slicehost as well, but not very experienced with setting up server environments. please share your experience. :-)

I would love to move over and learn how to install/maintain everything.

i hear great things about that co.

I am learning how to setup my server as well. I'm using several tutorials to get there. Slicehost has a number of great tutorials (Slicehost Article Repository - VPS setup, servers, Ruby on Rails, Django, PHP, DNS, Slicemanager and more) that help you get the basics done - Apache, MySQL, and PHP. It also helps with things like iptables. Then I am using this tutorial to get FTP, email, webmin, phpmyadmin, etc.: Quick Linux Server w/ Apache+PHP+MySQL+MailServer+PhpMyAdmin+Webmin+FTP Server+Webalizer+Firewall.

Post donate to pligg 2.0 ONLY

I understand that Pligg 1.0 will be completed first before 2.0 is released from the latest post on the subject. I was wondering if there is a way to donate for ONLY pligg 2.0 development?
