Hey Chuck - thanks!

I sent your solution over to the developer I am working with. I'll let you know how it works on our site. If there is any feedback, I would appreciate it.

Hey Chuck, just wondering if this "Bad Behavior" mod is just as sensitive as Bad Behavior normally is? Because Bad behavior sucks in a way due to the fact that it works too darn good in my opinion... it stops EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE. I hated it on Joomla and Wordpress -- nearly 65% of the users couldn't comment or register.

Thanks Chuck for this, but I agree with Blaze on this one. I wouldn't recommend installing it unless it is absolutely necessary... nice to have in the anti-spam armoury though...

I think this is a full house now? I can't think of any new anti-spam solutions that Pligg is lacking...

BTW, Chuck kicks major butt towards developing some great stuff to Pligg, so yes, I thank you also for creating this as well, even if I don't use it, as I know many will.

I would have to disagree. I get over 2000 visits to my site per day, and so far Bad Behavior has done yeoman's work for me. Anyone who is having spam issues can Google Bad Behavior and see how some of the very largest Wordpress blogs are using it. For me, Bad Behavior blocks over 150 bots attempts day. My guess is that you were just getting lots of bots. :-)

Here is a link to one of the largest Wordpress blogs (in terms of following) on the Web: Lorelle's Blog

and another Lorelle's spam blog.

Those of us who have thousands of visitors, know that it is very easy for bots to target and break through Akismet and captchas, and Bad Behavior is invaluable to keeping the site up and running. I've been there, and I know for a fact. Without it, I would not have a running site.

Well that's good for you then, but when Bad behavior won't even allow ME to register on my own site, I see it as a problem.

I will admit that the bad behavior plugin for wordpress wasn't as bad as Joomla, but again, I never had too many comments anyway, so I assumed it was good.

But on Joomla, it was plain and simple... it sucked royally. It blocked nearly everyone from doing anything at all. Nothing but problems on Joomla with bad behavior for me. As for Pligg, I am not sure how it will do, but I did install it a few weeks ago to test it out and it wouldn't let me register. This, of course, was using the generic method of installation and it wasn't installed as a module. I am not sure if that matters or not -- but test it out and let us all know if it works good for you. Maybe I'll give it another try.

Yes, there was one time when Bad Behavior blocked me out of my own site. It was a bit disconcerting. I don't remember the circumstances or how I reversed the problem. I think I reinstalled it. So it is not perfect, and it is possible for a knowledgeable security expert to write a customized version of Bad Behavior (that is what my pro did for his own site). It is absolutely mandatory for any large site to have such protection, if they allow visitor comments. I am positive that Digg, Delicious, etc. have developed their own versions of this protection, for without it they would have trash inundating their site.

I will test out this mod and let others know my experiences. Hopefully it works reasonably well, e.g. 99% success rate.

Thanks for your comments.
