This module creates users in PhpBB automatically when they register, synchronizes info when it is changed from the Pligg admin or from the Pligg user's profile and allows user to login automatically to PhpBB when they log in to Pligg. The admin "convert all" feature allows admins to add all Pligg users to PhpBB at once.

There is only one problem for integrating existing PhpBB users:
As soon as passwords are encrypted in Pligg , this feature can't make their PhpBB password same as in Pligg. They can't login to PhpBB with same login/password manually, they can login there from Pligg only, until they go to profile and update their passwords. So you should try to force a password update from Pligg or force them to log in to Pligg every time.

Installation:
  1. Upload the phpbb folder (zip attached to this thread) to your /modules folder.
  2. Navigate to Admin > Modules and activate the phpbb module.
  3. Navigate to the phpbb module settings page (a link is placed on the admin homepage)
  4. Enter the database information for phpbb. In the attached image example the database name is pligg_pligg and the prefix used by phpbb is phpbb_
  5. Set the cookie name (probably phpbb3_sv889)
  6. Hit submit to save your settings. Now when you create a user in Pligg it should become a phpbb user in your forums.

Okay so I went through all the posts and I can't seem to find the right answer, so I will ask this and make it as basic as possible.

>"Mysql Database and Prefix:" So the example is "pligg_pligg.phpbb_" I understand this needs a database name and prefix?
-My database name for pligg is: "database1" and the prefix I believe is "pligg_". My database name for phpbb3 is "database2" and the prefix is "phpbb_". So for this field would I enter: "database1.pligg_database2.phpbb_"? This is what confused me.

>"Mysql Database User:" This is obviously "root" (for most people)

>"Mysql Database Password:" This is also obviously the mysql database password

>"Mysql Database Host:" For most people this should be "localhost"

>"Cookie Name:" By default, this cookie name is "phpbb3_sv889", but should this cookie name be the same one that is in the phpbb3 cookie settings? "phpbb3_dun77" is the default cookie name for phpbb 3.0.4.

>"Cookie Path:" leave this one: "/"

>"Cookie Domain:" I believe we leave this one blank?

>"Default Group:" Change this one to: "registered users"

So I have blank databases for both pligg and phpbb3 so I don't need to worry about converting over old members, the database name is what confuses me the most, and the cookie. If a user logs into pligg and they click on a link that brings them to the phpbb3 forum, do they need to log in again or will the cookie carry over to phpbb from pligg? Also what about permissions? If I give admin permissions to someone in pligg, I will obviously need to make them admin in phpbb3 as well, but is there a way to change this?

-Another thing I thought of was the new facebook module, maybe I need to post this in that thread...But, if someone logs into pligg with their facebook user name and password, will the phpbb module make a forum account for them too or will they need to register for this to work?

Sorry about all the lengthy questions, but I think these are some bases that need to be covered.
Thanks!

I have installed pligg - almost perfect - and phpbb but cannot get any integration. I also get as far as filling out the form in admin (module.php?module=phpbb) and nothing happens when I click the submit button or 'convert all users' button. Think I understand what is required as input values in the fields (and have tried all variations) but the page just seems to refresh.

The only errors in my pligg site I have noticed are in admin section under pligg news in right hand side bar I get a warning:
Warning: ../cache/admin_c/50f12b2dbe30c952450e58d3ec5b061c.spc is not writeable in /home/soccerz/public_html/templates/admin/simplepie.inc on line 1773

and in the category list in the sidebar (the rss feeds) when logged in the categories and rss buttons get all mangled. Don't know if any of this is related to the integration of the phpbb forum but would appreciate any assistance in getting it to work and with the two other bugs noted above.

Think I have the latest version: it says 1.0.0 in admin, I downloaded it a few days ago. Came in a folder marked RC4. Website is SoccerZ.org if anyone wants a look.

I recommend the bridgers of the world check out JFusion - JFusion.org - Joomla Universal User Integration, which provides an amazing utility that already supports user integration with dual-login for Joomla, phpBB, SMF, vBulletin, Moodle, etc.

I just bridged my Pligg 1.0.0RC4 site to Joomla 1.5.9 with the following JFusion Plugin

anyone tried that?

behoppe can you provide us with a working website using that?

Also I read the readme.txt included and I am not very clear how users verify themselves , if email verification is turned off!

The working website (and relevant page) is Bookmarks

Users verify themselves on the joomla part of my site. I have no need to verify them more than once. The directions that come with JFusion - JFusion.org - Joomla Universal User Integration (which are not included in my plugin) are fairly clear about this

ok, I am thinking of using this module, and wanted to read through the thread first to see if there are any issues and what they are.

Having used bridges with other software in the past, one thing I have found to make things work smoother is having the two programs use the same database with different prefixes. I apologize if I am telling everyone something they already know, I don't want to sound condescending or anything, so please don't take it that way. Anyway, so, usually, when you install a program that uses mysql like Pligg or phpbb, during the install process you have to give the software a database prefix. If you are using a webserver system with something like Fantastico, that step is usually done for you, but most of the time, your database tables will all have a prefix, so if you look at your db in phpmyadmin, you will see a common prefix before each table name. So, if you install both pligg and phpbb to use the same database, with different prefixes, you will see a database that looks something like:

pligg_categories
pligg_users
phpbb_threads
phpbb_users
etc...

obviously there are going to be way more tables than that, but the idea is that they are both in the same database.

I get the feeling that this might help with the integration. Again, I can't say for sure that it is needed here, as I have not tried it myself for pligg and phpbb, but I know that it has been required for other software bridges in the past, and even where it hasn't been explicitly required, it has helped things run smoother.

just my two cents.
