Is there anyway to make the state of a sidebar section (e.g. categories or login or ...) persistent (closed or open) as one moves from page to page?
Is this feature part of the core and there is a bug?
Is there a custom modification (I have seen the one by glorify) or is there something in the admin I am missing.

I don't believe those ajax slider buttons have a method for maintaining their state from page to page. There should be some type of cookie based way to do it though, someone just hasn't hacked it together yet.

Just realized 2 days ago that there is an existing mod to do just what you want. We will be adding the changes to the SVN version for yget very soon.
