hi all,
I finally got Adsense code to work in the link_summary.tpl, but this displays the ads within whichever post someone reads. That's very cool and an unexpected surprise. I am trying to display ads on the homepage in the first post and every however many after that. Where do I need to put the adsense script to do this?
thanks.

godinu, AdSense will only allow you to show a certain number of ads on a single page at one time.. For example, if you place AdSense only in link_summary.tpl it should only display ads on the top 3 stories on your homepage or queued section. When someone opens a directly story link, it would obviously only show one. I've been playing around with which ad formats work best. I will say that I am not very happy with the keyword matching google uses to determine ads... For example my pligg site is about funny videos, and google places some REALLY strange ads on the site that have no relevance to the content... Take the the latest video, its titled "Obsessive compulsive cat flushing the toilet" The Google ads are about "stress relief" You can see my AdSense wrapped pligg site at http://scooptube.com Hope that helps, and if you have any questions feel free to ask...

Also, I don't think it's that far fetched to say that people looking at funny videos might be looking for some stress relief. Could be wrong though

I realize google only allows so many ads to be displayed at a time. My issue is different: on the homepage no ads are shown at all, and the homepage is where I would like the ads to be (displaying within the context of some of the stories). If you open up just one story to read it, ads display every time. I'm not sure where to insert the adsense code so that the ads are visible to anyone just visiting the homepage. I think for maximum ad exposure it helps that the ads are on the homepage and not just linked in an individual story. Re: google choosing strange keywords when choosing which ads to display, that's for sure. In the adsense blog or faq, there's a code you can use to tell google which words in a post to use for the ad selection. I'm not sure how well that will work with a template/php site though. |
