Exclamation How to optimize pligg to load faster

Ok, I'm sure everyone who has implemented pligg on their site has some problem or the other with the loading times.

It would be wonderful if the administrators or coders or anybody who knows a thing or two about it could help us non geeks to configure pligg to load like within 10 - 15 seconds at least.

Currently sometimes my site, www.advotiser.com/vote takes approx 15 seconds and sometimes like 30, which is way too long. Its also not uncommon for it to not load at all sometimes.

Anybody who has any ideas please share it.

Thanks and your help is appreciated in advance.

You need to tell us about your hosting. I assume you are on a shared host?

I'm using a Virtual Private Server and Pligg loads extremely fast.

Yes I host with GoDaddy and it is shared. I was looking at getting dedicated IP address would that help.

And is there a difference between a dedicated IP address and a virtual private server?

Thanks.

I just tried to load Stuff For Guys and there is a definite load time. Not a lot, but there is a bunch of different server calls. I agree that the load times need to be worked on, that is true of almost every web app. Hopefully there will be some tips to come out of this thread.

I am on the MT Gridserver which has had its share of ups and downs. Comparing different software on the same server, Pligg is definitely slower. You can test it out at my Wordpress site:

la.foodblogging.com

and my pligg site:

cheww.com

Let me know how they load for you.

So let's assume that my pligg site is loading faster than my wordpress site. Assuming that I still want to make it load faster, what could I do? Anything?

Have a look in the developer's section, I posted some things you can do to PHP and MySQL...

I loaded your site, the main index page (/vote/) took 5.5 seconds to load, and js/jspath.php took another 1.4. Whole page took ~13.5s to load after fetching all the elements.

Have a look at the thread I mentioned above, it's possibly PHP/SQL related.

At first I was having problems getting to the site, then the index.php loaded in ~7s. Then the next time timed out, and the next time was 21s.

I'm still not familiar with the templates in pligg, but it looks like a lot of sites don't start loading images in parallel until after xmlhttp.php is loaded. I guess that's what's loading the content.

What kind of server is this on?

Sean
