Old database on fresh install

I've been having more issues trying to upgrade than a fresh install.

Can I do a fresh install and just use the old database for it?

If possible, how do I connect the database to the new install? Will the old database work in the "step 1" of the install process?

you have to create an new database in fresh installation and then just import the table contents from your backup..

I'm using phpmyadmin, i was able to import the tables onto the database but how do i place the contents of the old tables into the new tables (old_links to new_links table for eg., can I just delete "new_links" table and rename "old_links" to "new_links"?

Thanks

From which version of Pligg you have to switch to latest one..?
If the versions are slightly differ then it picks up. But I don't know the tables used in the oldest versions before plig9.0..

I am upgrading from a late version 7 or 8 of Pligg.

There are 11 tables on my current old pligg install, the version 9.1 has 14 tables.

How can I get Pligg 9.1 to pick-up on the older pligg tables?

I don't see any changes between the two versions except Pligg 9.1 has 3 more tables.

Is renaming the tables good enough?
