change hosting

I am going to transfer hosting today but I am not sure how to do it correctly as this is my first time database transfer.

1. How do I transfer my database in the safest mode?
2. What kind of file should I save it when I download those files?
3. What should I pay attention or change when I upload the files?

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Well the first thing I was going to suggest was make sure the site is working on the new server before you leave the old server. And then I was going to say you should compare the configuration of the new server with the configuration of the old... operatings systems, versions, etc.

But I see the site is down with errors at the moment, so I guess you went ahead and gave it the all american try, eh? :)

From a backup: Upload your files to your new server, create a new database and upload your old database backup

Remember to set the right permissions, and change the settings.php, libs/dbconnect.php and libs/options.php according to your new server settings and database name. Then detete all files inside templates_c.

If your categories don't show, go to phpMyAdmin, click the categories table, tick category__auto_id click browse and change the All value to zero.

(In case you're using a back up)

Clean install: Install Pligg on the new server, delete the tables on phpmyadmin, and import the old database.
