I would also be interested in the algorithm of karma and the file where it´s coded.

*bump*

I'd like to understand this as well. I notice that the karma is the same for all of my users. I figured that it was a point system for users who submit or comment often, but it remains at 10 for all of them.

Is there something I'm missing to this?

Karma takes into account a users submissions, published, queued, and buried stories. It then comes up with a mathematical equation to represent it. In order to utilize Karma, you will need to run the karma.php file either manually or through a cron task. Generally people will set a cron job to run karma.php once every 24 hours.

Hope that helps shed some light.

Thank this developer

I figured out "run" means put http://www.yoursite.com/libs/karma.php in your browsers address bar (Thanks). It updated the members karma but it gave weird errors about personal messaging. Is this normal?

Actually to run the karma.php file properly, you need to setup a cron job.

Cron is a standard Linux feature that allows you to schedule tasks, called "Cron Jobs," to run unattended at a specified frequency. For example, you can set the frequency of a job to run twice an hour, Mondays at 8:00 a.m., or weekdays at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Contact your hosting company to see if they can help you set one up.

Is there any way to get access to the algorithm so we can tweak it and make it useful for the users?

I'm not sure I fully understand the way in which the Pligg Karma system works. Why does it have to be updated in a batch process, why not dynamically? When a user submits they get 'x' karma points, when they comment they get 'x' karma points... etc. Would that not be simpler?
