Upgrade v9 to v9.9 beta problems

Just upgraded to the Beta 9.9.0 and had some problems.

If it helps anyone....after I'd upgraded, I was getting an error about sidebar_stories_wrapper.tpl' does not exist in.....etc.

This is because I was using my own template instead of the default yget. To fix the problem I just copied sidebar_stories_wrapper.tpl from templates/yget to templates/mytemplate

I'm still getting a problem as my Admin settings cannot be changed anymore. It just doesn't allow me to change config settings.
Ok this problem is discussed here:
Can't edit anything in Admin Config
But I've tried changing the htaccess.default to .htaccess with no effect. Except....

Now I'm getting an error:invalid username or userid in get_avatar
on my homepage at the right hand side. And none of my news is showing.

I can't get into my Modules management in the Admin because I get another error:
Your template is not compatible with this version of Pligg. Missing the 'clear_modules_cache' function in admin_modules_center.tpl.
I also cannot change my template back to the yget default because I can't change anything in the Admin settings. Catch 22.

Ok, fixed this problem by copying templates/yget/admin_templates/admin_modules_center.tpl over into that folder in my template folder.

This lets me go into Admin/Modules Management and enable the javascript library. So now I can amend Admin settings alright. But of course I've lost my template settings and when I go to my homepage I still get the "invalid username or userid in get_avatar" error.
Strangely though...all my news has come back on the homepage. Weird.

Right. Next installment.
I thought that the javascript (admin settings editing) problem was fixed, but it appears it is fixed only some places.
Unfortunately,, as I've been updating spammers have been posting to my site and I think this has caused another problem as described in this thread:
invalid username or userid in get_avatar

In trying to delete the links from my database, I got a phpmysql error saying that the table has been marked as crashed and needs repaired.
Repaired the table but still no solution to the invalid user problem.

Solved the invalid user problem!
These SQL queries got rid of all the pligg_links where there was an invalid user (probably a spammer that I had previously deleted out of the pligg_users table)

delete FROM `pligg_links` WHERE `link_status` = 'queued'
delete FROM `pligg_links` WHERE `link_status` = 'discard'
