Where are my Images? My Formatting? Help!

I don't really understand what's going on here - I have the Pligg installed in its own directory off root. I have a subdomain pointed to that directory. When I visit the xyz.com/pligg directory, everything looks good. When I go to pligg.xyz.com I get the text content but no images or formatting. It's very strange looking. And to make matters stranger, the exact same thing happens when I tried to install a new theme, except that then it affected the xyz.com/pligg site as well.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Are there some path issues that I need to fix or something? How do I fix this in the most simple way?

Check admin >configure> location installed
Also make sure you read the included .htaccess file for the places you need to edit when using a subdomain.

Thanks. The install location seems to be properly set under the admin. I tried editing the .htaccess file as described, but it still doesn't seem to be working. I'll fiddle with it some more and see what happens. Maybe I should just reinstall under root? would that solve the problem? I don't want to bother if it's still going to give me the same problem with the subdomain because I need that subdomain structure.

UPDATE: actually the htaccess edits did fix the issue with the templates, so that's a huge help. I'm still working on the subdomain thing, so if anyone has an idea of how I might be messing up the path or whatever, let me know. I'm using GoDaddy as a host - perhaps there's something particular about their structure that I need to know?
