Angry going mad: upgrade to 9.8 some story links dont work

I upgraded to 9.8 from 9.5(or around there) some story links don't work, I guess it's a special character issue, but some just have plain dashes, why would this not be fixed yet???

RSS links not working, sort by links not working, check it out: cssreboot.com

Any help would be appreciated... it's almost like you have to be constantly thinking about pligg in order to keep up with the fixes you need to keep it working properly... just a bit stressed

Smile Upgrade not easy indeed but keep cool :-)

I understand that you can be stressed by pligg upgrades. Just take a breath of fresh air, think about birds or planets, and then...when you have the needed concentration to perform a big task... just ...

Dump (backup) all your 9.5 database records, create a new mysql database, make a fresh install of pligg 9.8. and make "inserts into" your new database with the old tables... and then try to solve each and every problem one by one...

Is this the recommened way to install?

I'm trying to move from 9.1 to 9.8 and am going nuts.

Should I just install fresh and then use the backed up database? How does one do 'inserts'?

Thanks

Thats a good point, if its better to do clean installs and upload DB then maybe it should be in the upgrade instructions as "the safest way to upgrade" or something like that :-) IDK

It's not like I was upgrading from a really old version. I know that Pligg is free and that its still in Beta (for how long now?) it's making me wonder if it's all worth it. Sorry, just not a good week for me working with Pligg.

i'm having a similiar problem, just that all the link to the stories don't work. when i did a clean install and imported my previous database, the problem persists. the funny part is, that i tested the clean install for the same problem and it wasn't there, only after importing my old data. i tried this multiple times, i wanted to be sure this problem wasn't created by the test posting. i'm using urlmethod 2, urlmethod 3 produces even worse results. i've renamed the default .htaccess file from pligg and was previously confirmed that my mysql and php versions are good.

did a fresh install and submitted a link. it works when using the default pligg category. so i've added the categories i want to use and all links that go into that category don't work (404 message when clicking on the story link).

The only way to upgrade is to do a 3 way directory comparison using Araxis Merge. Load the common parent in the center pane, your mod in the left and the new version in the right pane.

Then click all files in turn to compare/merge.

Good luck, but it's the only way.
