Upgrade issue? "duplicate column name"

I'me pretty sure it's not an issue because the column DOES exist, however, I do not know what to do next, there is not "next" step, nor is there a confirmation that everything was updated.

update from 0.5 to 0.56

steps:

1) uploaded files, renamed css and lib/dbconnect.php so they would not get overwritten.
2)chmodd'ed appropriate dir's.
3)ran the install script and clicked upgrade.

there is nothing after that. I went back to the homepage, re-logged in, and nothing changed, i know i was looking forward to beng able to modify titles and text, but it looks exactly the same.

I would like to know if there is anything else that is required after the db upgrade.
