User Profile & Community

Hi All,

User community is the new happening feature everywhere. Be it Digg, blog directories, Stumble anywhere - nearly each one of them provides extensive user communities and tools and facilities.

Pligg is good in the core function - but when it comes to user part it leaves a lot of room for development. I have seen talks here for Pligg and Elgg integration. But I dont think any integration can be a good solution - as whenever there is any version upgrade or fix coming up from either - the work for us will be extensive.

We do have a user profile page in Pligg but even the addition of one additional field is painful for noobs like us. Even when we have ajax and all the javascript making life smooth and cool in the story/news pages and giving it a fresh look and feel - the user pages are still pre-historic and lacks features.

Ideal community features should have a user profile/user home page, interaction tools like messaging, groups and a single page forum.

I am willing to share cost of any such development.

I agree...would definitely give people more reason to return. Sounds like a lot of additional work, but I'd be up for contributing to this effort. Additional profile fields help, but could definitely use more personalized options.

Thnaks to redwine i could add some addl fields today ... its a pain though and knowing that u need to do everything whenever theres an upgrade of the script ... Grrrr!

But the user community cannot be neglected - i am also game to share cost if some one takes up the challenge

Well hopefully the more mature the Pligg script becomes, the less difference between upgrades and integrations and mods won't have to be tweaked much between versions. I see a lot of work done here on both sides; upgrading Pligg and mods and tweaks only to find threads leave you hanging and 404'd demos and links when a new version of Pligg arrives, I guess that's beta for ya.
