      Auto Content Scraper

The Auto Content Scraper module makes it easy to add rich content to your Pligg site. Many links submitted from popular sites that contain videos, photos, music, documents, and rich content are automatically scrapped for their content and added to a Pligg site submission. If the submitted url does not contain rich media or if the submitted url is not from one of the hundreds of supported sites to scrape content from, a screenshot will be grabbed and cached locally and embeded in the summary pages.
The Auto Content module uses the oEmbed Function API and the Embed.ly API to detect content from the most popular social and media sharing sites on the internet

Check out the Demo Video Here

      Features

      • Easy Installation
      • Self Updating - When more supported sites are added to the API they will automatically be supported through this module without the need to update.
      • Preview the content in submit step2 for supported urls.
      • Auto thumbnail generation for summary pages from all available sources.
      • Uses jquery multiget on summary pages for less calls to the api which speeds up fetching and rendering.
      • Screenshots from unsupported urls are now cached locally

      Supported Services

      Available for:

      • Pligg 1.0.0 or higher

    Hi chuckroast,

Understandable. However, I've looked at both collegehumor and vimeo in this example and they both support sizable thumbnails
Anyway, which services have you currently enabled thumbnails for? I'd like to disable thumbnails for all the others due to them messing up the layout, how can I achieve this?

    Thanks,

    Dennis

Currently thumbnails can only be retrieved if the url formats using the same unique identifier. .
For example if the video url is something like ?watch=AVHTV35
The thumbnail would use the same identifier in the url structure such as /thumbs/AVHTV35_small.jpg
Unfortunately not all content providers follow that common method.

Currently the module grabs thumbs from youtube, twipic, imgur, and tinypic.
    Future versions will handle more.

If want to not use thumbnails you can copy the code from
    auto_content_scraper/templates/begin_scrape_story.tpl
    into
    auto_content_scraper/templates/begin_scrape_summary.tpl
replacing the code in that file.

    Best Regards

    Hi chuckroast,

To be honest I'd like to have the reverse: to have thumbnails if the website supports it or disable it if the site doesn't support thumbnails (e.x disabling scaped content on vimeo and collegehumor content). The reason why is because I don't want to have it mess up the layout

Hey Chuck - Love the content scraper: got a quick question, though. Does it embed the Flickr galleries like the Flickr module does, or do I need to download that module separately? I know that ACS embeds single images from Flickr, but I wasn't sure about the galleries (not that any of my users seem to understand Flickr, but I can dream, can't I?)

No, it only support single images from Flickr. This is due to limitations within Flickr since the galleries don't use usernames. They use a user ID number which the embedly api is not currently able to retrieve. Also it would require Flickr to use the oembed functions which they only provide for single images. The separate flickr module is the best option for now.

It works with any template that is fully compatible with Pligg. Blogspot is not rich media.

yo! awesome module. Works well but I have one little problem

Sometime the preview of the video don't work. I can live with that because it show an icon to tell the user that it should have something here and he can click on it to go on the story page. BUT, in firefox this little icon doesn't show up. Works well on all other browser (IE and chrome, didn't try opera). Any idea ?

ps : can't wait for the version 5 to be release, good job dude.

Hello Chuck, i am about to buy this module, but before just 2 quick questions:

    - Is it possible to disable the double click on the youtube video, and the youtube pop's up?

    - Is it mandatory to write something on the discription and tags when submiting a new video?

    Thank you in advance.

    1. There is no popup, or double click.
    2. The module does not control this. This is a standard Pligg configuration option. Set minimum characters allowed to zero.
