Glad to see there could be a good way to increase the performance of Pligg!

Still like to hear comments from one of our developers at Pligg. I believe this is an issue beneficial to every pligger.

Thank you and cheers!

Here's some info on persistent connection:

Non persistent connections need to use mysql_connect() which is expensive, so using persistent connections you have a bit more performance.

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Why_p...ctions_are_bad
According to some sources the performance hit is minimal

I'm not a mysql guru, so try both settings and see how the application performs. If you do what revolver did by putting timing code in begin_gzip and end_gzip and see how long the index.php takes to load (try 10 times and average) in both settings(persistant on and off) and post your results here

a lot of you need to, how should i put this, "stop complaining" (in a nice way)

i've visited all the people here that say that they are "omg, my pligg site is so slow!!!", but it loads pretty okay for me.

you guys should stop expecting pligg to load like they are being viewed offline. and sometimes hosts go down for a bit, and back up, all you need is a little patience.

Whats the prob in saying in and admitting it..

Pligg IS slow. However, it is quite tolerable on a 56kbps connection and with ver. 9.6.

9.5 is relatively twice as slow.

Saying it is not an attack. Some of us are the kind who made wordpress and drupal what it is by using it and spreading it - not coding it. A comment is not a complaint.

Meanwhile, most new users of Pligg do not have a clear idea that the Pligg code community is small; it is not as evolved as some other opensource software that is out there, and will take time to mature. Many are used to quick answers and solutions that a wordpress or drupal or phpbb forum provides to their questions, and they should not expect the same with Pligg. Meanwhile, the attitude that anyone who is not coding has no right to ask questions should also be avoided.

Umm, I didn't complain My visitors don't mind waiting. The orginal poster, yes, upgrade to 9.5 at least.

9.6 does not do anything for speed from what I read here.. does it?
