User bars on different forums get some hits, I made a few and had friends use them on different forums and sites, word of mouth (trying to make the community feel involved by giving them a "catchy" name) helps, i.e. anyone who is actively involved in your site give them a title as a whole group or individualy and ask that they help in spreading the word, while it might not be the rain of visitors you need it still builds awareness. also link exchanges help. Cross traffic is the main reason im working on a
pligg topsites system, so sites can benefit from a mutual link where their traffic can see other pligg related sites. while for some this might not be an ideal solution, for others it might work out better than expected. Once we have a decent amount of sites signed up, i think this will help with some traffic, as webmaster might want higher ranking to get more traffic in from the site and to show their rank on their sites, the more clicks from their site to the topsite means better chance for other sites to get traffic and also for them to get more traffic as higher ranking means their site will be more visible. While none of these ideas is the end all be all but Im hoping togather they mean some decent traffic.
