Mine sucks too. I'm posting links back to my site manually by posting comments on story related blogs I find at technorati.com.

Hope all this effort eventually works so my site gets found.

Ouch, I hope that doesn't give you a bad name in the end 3D. I hate it when users post links back to their sites most of the time. I usually consider it spam and I'll remove it unless it's directly related (and a decent site).

As for "related information", I'm linking back to the story page on my site which most relates to the story I'm bloggin on, not my homepage. I think this is smart - no?

Posting links in comments is common, but actually works. It may not directly up your pagerank or standing in the SERPs but could give you visitors, particularly if your post is remotely relevant or useful. Even a trickle of visitors can be of good use to sites, particularly new ones, and can pave the way for more.

I think your best bet, rather than forum links, is to try and get it onto a popular site that announces new stuff. eg. Peter Cashmore's WebList, B3ta.com or similar.
