Asking that is like asking how long is a piece of string. Bandwidth per month is basically page size x page views (per month) - it is dependent on the number of page views, as well as page size. Page size - if you use demo.pligg.com as a marker for a default installation, its about 110kb per front page view. You can decrease that through things like compression and removing unwanted javascript. I have mine down to around 40kb per front page view for example. Other pages will vary in size, but you can use that as an estimatory figure. Page views - entirely down to how popular your site is! Last edited by Simon; 04-23-2007 at 07:40 AM.. |

yeah, like simon says, it's basically how many visitors you get that will load the page and download the contents

If you have limited bandwidth that you feel might have been eaten up too fast some suggestions to save your bandwidth: 1] If your site is of low traffic - you can host your logo and other request images on some third party hosts - there are many who offer you a great package for just professional image hosting - but mind you not all such image hosts are allowed by corporate firewalls - I know many organizations that kill requests to imageshak.us and photobucket. And for images use GIF for transparent ones (renders good on all browsers+small in size) PNG 8bit for other images - if image is to have more colors - try medium quality JPEG. 2] As simon said - reduce the images, use JS compressions, enable gzip file serving from htaccess that will save your bandwidth as well as the users bandwidth - they will Thank you for keeping you site light weight. 3] Last but not the least - find a good host for a low price+good lot bandwidth offering. mediaTemple, Site5, DreamHost are a few to name. |
