Can anyone recommmend the best forum software to download?
My requirements are ->
1) It has to be stable
2) Open source (PHP/MySQL)
3) Has to work in conjunction with Pligg (sharing user names, data, etc.) OR has to have heavy active development by Pliggers looking to create this integration soon...
Optional
1) Has to be able to support multiple languages
Thx

Pligg has a module for integrating with PHPBB and vBulletin. PHPBB is open source, so you probably want that. vBulletin requires a license which runs about $100/year. If you don't need integration with Pligg I would also suggest Vanilla.

As Yank said - PHPBB is what meets all your needs.

My preference goes to phpbb. The most simple and efficient to create a forum, imho ![]() If you haven't got much time, and want to see what the new phpbb3 can offer, just try it out on this host : free forums Hope you will enjoy it |

Here's another open source alternative to phpBB, Home of SMF: Free PHP and MySQL forum software |

Or you can do $80 per year, I think. I've used them all. No question, I vBulletin has always been the best for me. It's incredibly well thought out, semi search engine friendly, and has many mods available. I used SMF quite a bit back in the day. It was a very good script, but I wasn't getting any search engine traffic. I saw immediate changes when I switched to vbulletin. I saw dramatically higher traffic when I added vbseo. (Keep in mind that my site is well seo'd and 2 years old now). PHPBB is not bad and they have plenty of mods. Personally, I couldn't imagine a forum being successful if you refuse to drop $160 for it. You'll have to invest thousands and thousands of dollars to make a forum work if you have any competition when you count contests, marketing, contests, and your own labor. $160 is nothing! The hard part when it comes to spending cash on a script is determining value. I bought Articlelive a few years ago. Last week I spent a lot of time switching over to Wordpress. I would have been better off with the free script from the beginning. For me, I prefer vBulletin, Wordpress, and Aweber. It's a guessing game after that. Brandon
