Total waste of money in my opinion. Here's a decent list of iPhone disappointments HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - First impressions? Disappointing...

There are smart phones for cheaper that can do what the iPhone can't and they've been doing it for years. I even heard that the iPhone doesn't support music ring tones. It's a freaking ipod and it doesn't support music for your ringtones? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

This device looks like it was aimed at the general consumer who has the money to spend on such a flashy device, but it leaves so many basic features behind that it's almost impossible to consider it a success as a mainstream device. It encourages the advanced user to move away from MMS and into email to send images, but leaves out any advanced features advanced users would be accustomed to, and still retains a huge price tag on top of it.

It's certainly pretty and Americans will buy it because of that simple UI, but anyone who's familiar with other operating systems would be appalled. This phone needs to be unlocked and cracked WIDE open to make much better use of the multi-touch system. That, or it needs an immediate update in iTunes to rework every feature.

Someone discovered that the new itunes has some ringtone images included with it, they just haven't written in the feature/unlocked it. The only downside I see so far with my iPhone is the lack of flash support. If they were to include the ability to use flash on the web it would unlock a crapload of web games and finally turn it into a "fully featured web browser" as they claim. Besides that the iPhone is pretty awesome, you really have to play with it for a few hours before you can say much for or against it. People who knock the on-screen keyboard are half right. When the auto-suggest dictionary is in use (writing emails and IMs) it's great. When writing for the web it is sometimes disabled, which sucks. They disable it on the web because not every field you type into should be corrected (username, password, etc.).

lol.

Btw: the Pligg donations went to Fraxi template that we currently have on the main site (pligg.com) and more work that I dunno if I can discuss here.
( - sorry for stealing the thread, lets get back to iPhone business - )

I am gathering some info on the first man who purchased, first woman who purchased, first person on queue and other launch hypes for an editorial for this month (lol - starting this month we have to do some editorials too as we are now a part of other company who's primary business is publication)

I'm wondering if its worth it to create an seemingly generic iphone template for our pligg site. Saw the site with iPhoney and it left a lot to be desired. I think a basic template, minimal graphics, iPhone-like nav, etc. would make for a better experience. Considering how many units were sold, it might be worthwhile as it could possibly be used for other mobile devices. I'll need to look into this.

BTW, 500,000 iPhone units were sold over the first weekend.
And no, the Pligg donations weren't used for the Pligg.com template. I used money earned from the Pligg forum banners to pay for the Fraxi template. Pligg donation money is only used for development costs and other things directly related to the project. I use banner ad money to pay for the hosting and templates.

It's an expensive phone and it has it's quirks but as a smarphone owner and someone who works in the mobile industry, there is no other phone like it right now....you can believe that every manufacturer out there is reverse engineering the device to see what makes it tick (Samsung processors, sorry Intel) and what they can do to "one-up" it. If the iPhone does nothing else, it should hopefully raise the bar (No Cingular pun intended) as far as what mobile phones should be like. Trust me, unless you live in Asia or certain parts of Europe, your phone sucks.

I spent $300+ for an 8700g when it came out. A little less for a Razr when it first appeared. People like being the first in having the coolest things. The only thing that makes the iPhone an expensive device is the AT&T plans being offered with it.

honestly, the plan that comes with the iPhone is no more than I'm spending for my Blackjack. AT&T makes their customers buy a PDA data plan for this handset and with my txt msgs and 450 rollover minutes...well the iPhone isn't all that bad.

Still, if you're not an AT&T customer of if this is your first phone with data, then I can understand the gripe.

iPhone Site

Hey Yankidank,

I want to port my site to iPhone, I just got mine (unlocked and using it in NZ!) and am keen to get this going. I found a basic iPhone template (attached) which can be altered and changed to suit but not sure if it is going to be of any use as you have to do everything in html. Did you get very far with getting a site done. I assume the main site and the mobile site are linked.

Could you help me port mine, or if you want a project to do or test, let me know. Also if you have done it already could I grab the files so I can change so it reflects my site.

Cheers

Dan
