Elgg Pligg integration

Is anyone considering integrating Elgg, the multiuser social networking and blogging environment (http://www.elgg.org) with Pligg? The idea would be to front elgg with a pligg rating interface, such that the best entries in elgg would be rated by the site users or visitors.

Combining pligg with elgg sounds totally nice (understatement)! The friends system in pligg blows ATM, and this mashup would make pligg way more powerfull than any other social news solution/site.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, mashing up the two would be a hard job i guess. Anyone up for it?

Tasks:
1) pligg's usersystem should be dropped > pligg should be abled to "read" elgg's users
2) pligg data should be read by elgg and vise versa
3) after that it's just some creative linking in the pligg templates...
4) ...and elgg templates

I can do #3 for the mollio-beat template

I agree about the friends thing, beatniak. I think Pligg is lacking hardcore in that department.

Hehe. Jup
I guess that's one of the reasons why it's still 0.x

Why not re-make the "user" section of pligg with a more "elgg" like feel, rather then relying on complex integrations? It would be a good step in taking pligg beyond digg.

we can also supergu it
(steal their code and copyright it as our own)

You got a point there, but why redo all the fantastic work those guys at elgg did? Let's do the thing we're good at, and let those guys do the stuff they're good at. We just need a bridge. Elgg is a great addon for pligg and vise versa.
(just brainstorming with my sleepy head)

I've always wondered why Digg never improved the way friends interacted and now I think it is purely intentional to keep them from gaming the system. Of course, anyone can chat somewhere else and plan a story.

Either way, an enhanced friend system would be great. I have no coding skills but if someone needs a test hosting environment or photoshop work, I can help.

I feel like 3dkiller now. I must go shower.

lol @ sonaro. I've just briefly looked at Elgg but agree that a bridge would be great. No reason to reinvent it as beatnik said. I'll put it on THE LIST.

I'd like to see a pligg/phpbb3/elgg/wikimedia bridge mod where everything just works. Hey, I can dream.

I didn't know Elgg, I've just discovered it with this post. It seems to be a very very powerfull CMS for any community.
A web tour with illustrating screen shots is available here : http://elgg.net/tour_1.php
Here are more informations about elgg : http://elgg.org/coverage.php
Elgg seems to be very useful not just for education, but for communities who need information sharing... Like Beatniak said, Elgg is a great addon for pligg and vise versa.

At this time I wish Pligg could be integrate with another CMS which bring other functionallities. I first thought about Drupal, but Elgg may perhaps be better. Dont know...
Unfortunately I don't know much about php. But I wish some people try integrate Pligg with this CMS. I could help by testing, for example.

I've found here : http://tesl-ej.org/ej34/m1.html a global view of the functions of Elgg. It could help to see what it is about :
