This is for automatically pulling in RSS Feed data, with images.. I don't set-up a feed and then add images after, I set-up a feed to pull the image at the same time.
Do you have to enable extra field 3 in libs/extra_fields.php too? I am not sure if it is related to this process. all the fields there are set to "false".

I am trying to import images from this feed Pakistani Pictures could you please check it for me and let me know which settings I needs to import images via RSS importer.
I have tries
title - link_title
link - link_url
description link_content
works OK but no image.

then I have also tried 4th field
atom_content - link_field3
and then
media_content - link_field3
but no luck

regards

From looking at the feed, it appears "<content:encoded>" is what needs to be imported in the "link_content" field. However, in order to view images from the feed, you will have to make sure the html tag (ie: <img>) is set appropriately for the story summary. To do this, you will need to click on admin >> configure >> submit. From there find "HTML tags to allow" which allows you to include html tags that can be used in the summary.

Also, because these <img> tags can include a lot of text, you need to increase the number of characters allowed in the summary as well, or else the <img> tag will get cut off likely due to truncating. To do that, you must go to admin >> configure >> summary and find "Content truncate" to change for the allowed number of characters to show. Change it to something like 400 characters if you want to include some text as well other than the image, because sometimes these image tags can carry a lot of characters.

You must understand that by allowing these html tags, you will also allow ALL USERS the ability to use these tags as well when submitting stories. If it doesn't work, then perhaps try increasing the number of characters again to maybe 1000. If that doesn't work, then perhaps it's another tag to be imported for "link_content" instead? Play with it until you figure it out which tag needs to be imported as the "link_content".

sorry was away from the forum for a while.. Anyway Blaze pointed you in the right direction.. I'm not sure about importing video, I have never tried that.. But yes you would need the Video plugin, and the video source html tags added to the submit options in admin.

Ok, so showing rss images is simple. Just need to enable <img> tag and examine rss import field for the correct field which contains <img> tag.

Now the major issue remains: Resizing and Aligning Images. Different rss has different size and aligned images. Some rss has no images. So this features are essential for importing rss images.

1. Images will be re-sizable to a standard size which does not break template
2. Images will be shown in aligned manner.
3. If no image found, a default(blank) image will be shown.

See my attachments. Look at the red tick photos(these are websnaps). I would like to show imported images in rss as those photos. Similar size. Left and properly aligned.

Anyone has achieved this even by modifying other modules or core or working on it? Or any suggestions how to achieve this?

Pligg devs should take a look at this feature. This will increase everyone's site traffic and same for pligg.

I tried everything according to advices found in this thread, but no use. I can NOT get the images to appear!.
For example I tied the rss feed noted in the above example and knowledge exchange between blaze and computerbar users. When I examined the feed I got the below results but no image or <img> or [image] tags!. All I found are the [inimage] => at the end of the feed.
I can't even get the video thumps neither coming from any feed or story submission even though that I have <youtube> tag in the html along with the <img> and <image> and <inimage> and other video tags as noted in the above exchanged conversation between blaze and comubar.

One thing I want to point out... You must understand, if the feed itself does not show images while viewing it within a browser, then there is no way it will import images into your pligg site. Try looking at the feed through firefox and IE 7, you should be able to view the images along with the content. If you do not see any images, then this is why they aren't showing up when you import them. It's because the feed itself doesn't contain images. If you do see the images, then double check these things:

A. make sure <img> is in the html allowed for submission. (admin >> configure >> submit)
B. make sure to edit your rss.php file and change the lines as noted below:

change lines 117-119:

Code:
		$description = $link->link_summary;
		$description = strip_tags($description);
		$description = htmlspecialchars($description);
to this:

Code:
		$description = $link->link_summary;
		//$description = strip_tags($description);
		//$description = htmlspecialchars($description);
C. Change the number of characters allowed in the summary to a higher number -- like maybe 3000 characters. (admin >> configure >> summary and find "Content truncate")

If after doing all the above and it still doesn't work, then you can try doing this option as a last resort:

1. sign up for a feedburner account.
2. burn the feed you are trying to import into your pligg site.
3. click on optimize in your feed settings at feedburner and select Content-Type Burner.
4. Select application/xml as the content type and click activate.
5. Grab the feed directly from feedburner and import that feed instead into pligg.

By doing the above steps, it should work. The feedburner feed will always work because it cleans up the feed nicely and is extremely Pligg Friendly. For example, trying to import an RSS Feed directly from eBay looks like garbage and won't show images at all UNLESS you burn it through feedburner first, and then import the feedburner version into pligg.

If it still doesn't work, then it's possible that you modified another php file that is conflicting with your rss import. Try uninstalling the rss import module, remove it from your server, upload the module to your server again and reactivate it. If after all this and it still doesn't work, then sorry my friend, I'm all out of answers for you. It should definitely work after doing all the above.
