More efficient random story module

I love having the random story module enabled for my site. One thing I noticed is that it runs the query with every page load (example - hover over the link and it shows a different link to story with each page load). Is there a way to have it make the query and pick the url once it is clicked instead of with every page load? Like maybe always link to a random.php file that runs the random_story_getdata function?

I tried doing it myself but can't seem to get it right.

Thats an excellent idea. I should have done it that way in the first place.
