Can dollar5 provide the fix or tell us perhaps what files need to be changed (so he doesn't give away the proprietary algorithm if he has one. Karma is the number one feature I would want because it also helps to stop "gaming" the system.

Seems very curious, because I would think a good Karma system would definitely enhance participation.

What is the problem, Pliggers? What am I missing?

Why don't you seem to care about this subject?

I agree but help is far and in between these days

There is an average of 60 posts per day. If I spend 5 minutes on each post, thats 5 hours PER DAY. If Chuckroast and Yankidank take half of those posts, thats still 2.5 hours per day for me. This is guessing at 5 minutes per post, although most post require much more time.

I hear your concern! I don't even provide support and I'm here an average of 2 hours a day just reading!

Exactly what problems are all of you talking about regarding karma? The karma system appears to work fine for me. My only issue with it is that I don't understand the exact definitions of the variables in order to tweak the formula. I created a post about this today:

Questions about Karma formula

I noticed that a killspammed user can have higher karma than a real contributor, but I created a simple fix for that (I'll share if if anyone is interested).

I also noticed that the karma numbers don't seem fair for members that submit published stories, but I was hoping that by getting a better understanding the variables so that I could tweak it to be more fair.

Is there another problem with it that I haven't discovered?

a question of priorities

It is pretty frustrating that you will take time to post to complain that you do not have enough time to respond to all posts, but will not answer a specific question that has been asked repeatedly.

In the time you spent on this post, you might have been able to shed some light on the issue. Like what is going on with Karma? Why is it being ignored?

And, furthermore, it is an exaggeration that you need to spend 5 whole minutes on each and every post to this forum *every day*.

Most of them, you can dismiss fairly quickly and move on, like you are doing with the ones in *this* thread and the others on Karma, evidently.

Here are the post counts for you lately:

02/10: 2posts
01/30: 7 posts
01/24: 1 post
01/23: 1 post
01/22: 14 posts
01/20: 7 posts
01/19: 5 posts
01/18: 7 posts
01/17: 2 posts
01/16: 9 posts
01/15: 1 post
01/11: 1 post
01/08: 5 posts
01/05: 3 posts

Not only are you *not* posting each day, you are not posting in numbers which would require the hours of time you claim.

Why do you include Karma in the core if you are not going to support it?
At least *please* give people an explanation of why they cannot even get a response after months of requests.

The reason that karma was given up is that there are more priority works that requires more attention that is very much needed for the Pligg owners than the karma system: validation of email, better CAPTCHA, database optimizations etc.

There is always a third party solution for reward system - feel free to contact me - I can provide a paid solution for your reward system needs. Only thing is we have it under a commercial license that we cannot release as OSS.

Check the Quick links "Times and days on board-statistics"

Thank you ash for all the modules, assistance and patience you are providing us pliggers, free of charge!

Guys,

If you think that he is not spending enough time answering your posts, check the Quick links "Times and days on board-statistics" and see how much time ash and the rest of the board members are spending on the forum. You have to take into consideration the time spent on development as well. Do we think that they work for us and should not have a social life as well?. This is a community that provides answers to questions and solutions to problems. We all are part of it. We help each others and benefit from the different ideas, suggestions and solutions. Mind you that there are some priorities and features that are deprecated...a good search of the forum will give us a good start and the rest is a "NICE" request for help and assistance. Just reverse positions and you will see it from a different perspective!

Cheers!

Wow, I was going to pretty much unload my thoughts on this post, but after having lunch and calming down, I'll keep it civil.

Has everyone become so spoiled to open source that we forget how much this software would have cost us just 8 years ago? Remember that AshDigg's support is mostly (or maybe completely) voluntary. This is a community where developers contribute by adding to the core and users contribute by reporting bugs and suggestions. Unless your contributing big bucks, you don't have a right to complain. Complaining is for the commercial world, not open source.

Now, I understand your frustration. After all, I was the last post waiting for the Karma solution. Luckily, you're not without options. For example, you could:

1. Hire someone to fix the problem. This is what we did in the olden days (8 years ago).

2. Pick up a PHP book. This is what I did for some other Pligg problems. Last year I couldn't spell PHP, but since no one on here had time to develop a way to completely delete stories, I learned a little PHP, hacked a script and shared it with the community. I'd fix the Karma problem except I'm not a math wiz and, after a little experimentation and tweaking, I've come to realize the Karma system works pretty well (at least until something better comes along).

3. Have patience and wait. It's not like they don't know the problem is there.

Well, anyway, that's my two cents.
