Sub-categories and extra submission options

What I'd like to do is enable people to have an option to add a company name in the submission process. If there is a company ane they do add a name (it should be optional), it would create a sub-category by which people could search for info about that company. Is this possible?

I think that using tags would work best for you. If you allow people to create unlimited subcategories your category list on the right side will become ridiculously large over time. If you just allow for tagging, something we are looking into, you will in a way get the same functionality of a subcategory without the complications. We need someone who wants to take on the vogoo project and help us integrate vogoo with pligg. I'll post this request somewhere else.

Correction:
For some reason I was thinking that vogoo has folksonomy built in to it, Ash corrected me in IRC. I've been spending this morning looking up some articles on folksonomy and I am going to post a thread about it as soon as I finish correcting myself here. Anyways: vogoo does not have a tagging system built into it, it's more of a social networking suggestion program. We still do however want to integrate vogoo so my plea for a vogoo designer still stands.

Great suggestion, I'll definetly consider doing that instead! I'd love to help with the folksonomy or vogoo however I spend more time asking for help rather then giving it so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be of much use. Nonetheless, thanks for all your hard work on this project!

As well as the helpful functionality of having the tagging, there is an another reason for wanting to have more options during submission of a story.

I have a larger plan for my site which moves beyond merely submitting and linking news, to actually cataloging it. I don't exactly what this is going to involve or how to do it at this point, but basically I want to offer more options during submission for including a greater amount of information regarding an event or company so a log of the event can be created. From there, at some point I want perhaps the page which houses the comments to also include a wiki-style submission system for submitting and editing of content by users.

What I'm thinking is though, one page wouldn't be the definitive page on say, Sony or Microsoft, because thanks to tagging it wouldn't have to be, but it would be a definitive source on a particular incident, as in people could post follow up information. If the article deals with an unresolved consumer issue with a company or the matter goes to trial and someone wants to update the information in regards to the issues status, this would be the way to do it.

Now I don't know how easy any of this is, or maybe it's more appropriate to say, I don't realize just how hard it is. What I would like to see is, in the continuation of the spirit of open source, is that these features I'd like to develop become options to be included later on. What I need is help from anyone who is interested in my idea because I don't know exactly how to implement any of this. I'm a quick learner and willing to do all I can so if anyone knows how to do this sort of thing and wants to get started, feel free to PM me or reply here so we can get going!
