As Digg looks for new avenues of growth, they may be inclined to help others build Digg-like sites by providing a white-label service. Today that business is grabbed by coRank, the open source Pligg, and others.

Yeah, I saw that. I think that would be bad for the Pligg business model. Though I'm guessing Digg would go for a hosted model, rather than selling their software, so probably still a lot of room for Pligg.

It's possible that Digg may create some sort of new system to allow webmasters to create their own Digg clones.

I'm not aware of any other social bookmarking service doing so, and as Pligg has created a multitude of niche sites, they may well conclude that Digg cloning is already widespread so there's nothing to lose.

However, they aren't going to facilitate rivals to Digg itself, so any system they create will be heavily tied in with Digg.com itself, and it certainly won't be open source.
