All of this is about what is best for pligg in my opinion - there have been some very constructive comments, especially from Merc. The question - would you pay for premium mods - leads on to other questions, which should also be explored. This is simply because they give a better look at the big picture, and the reasoning behind the direction that will eventually be taken.

I would pay for faster detail work on certain topics for the whole Pligg community, i.e. to lift some ideas of the forum on the priority list.

If there's really good add-on, then we should have no problem to pay for it.

I agree and disagree with keeping pligg open and free. I think it comes down to the main people involved with pligg. Where do you see the software a year from now or even five years from now. One option that the pligg team may want to look at is phpfox.com they charge for either a license fee or a monthly subscription price. There are prices for installing the software on a domain etc etc. The key is this and I think it will solve the problem of having too many people trying to either steal or contribute to the same module , project etc. form a team of pligg developers and module developers. Then offer a subscription model,License model , support etc and then disperse that money amongst the developers. This will keep them wanting to come up with better stuff it will also organize the pligg team into a more centralized business . I would be more than happy to help pligg turn its business model into a more formalized one. I guess the best way to sum it all up in a nut shell is that I can go download any movie off of bitorrent for free but you know what it may be grainy and if it doesn't work or is in french who do i turn too. If I pay for it though I know I am getting a quality movie and support. Same goes for software.

Pligg hosting

Hi,

I am _sure_ there are good reasons why this hasn't been done.

However, I would pay _now_ for hosting of pligg managed by the people who developed it.
Also, since I have a pligg site, I would pay _now_ to have updates in advance and priority helpdesk on problems/solutions.

If hosting/architecture is a problem, I would pay _now_ if I could give developers behind pligg an account on my server (ssh, with public key only) and let them do *everything* a part from managing the site as well. And I would pay _extra_ for guaranteed upgrades. And no, I wouldn't expect them to be liable if the server got hacked - and I would expect the *probability* of it getting hacked lower, but not 0.

This could be done "easily" (but no, there is nothing easy in computers) by creating a nice architecture where you can mass-update people's sites.

This is very similar to what RedHat does, but on a different level. Would it work for Pligg? I don't know. I can only speak for myself...

Bye,

Merc.

Yet another idea...

Hi,

This makes me think about yet another idea.
Again, it's humble, and you have probably already thought of it.

What about establishing a bounty system for new features?

I would *love* to limit the "Upcoming stories" to 24 hours. I would ask for a feature requests, or put up a bounty on it ($200 to fix it right away).

Things will eventually get developed. However, people would pay to escalate issues - and any improvement is still released under teh GPL!

Bye,

Merc.
