| Pligg - underselling itself GaryReid.co.uk Blog Post Pligg - underselling itself May 3, 2006, 11:55 am Posted by Gary Reid in Web 2.0 Over the weekend I realised that two parts of Combtail's information was getting, well, let's say 'less than agile'. My list of Web 2.0 companies has grown to over 600 and become unmanageable and the list of knowledge pools, information hubs and key user producers has grown beyond what I can hold in my head. I needed a solution. For the Web 2.0 list I wanted something that was searchable, categorised, folksonomised (if that's a word) , commentable, publicly expandable and collaborative.TechCrunch is great but I can never find what I'm looking for quickly, my list is okay but doesn't have enough information. For the knowledge pools, information hubs and key user producers I wanted a private application available to me, my clients, partners and the key user producers who are part of the list. I wanted it to be editable, expandable and searchable. I wanted it to be commentable and have some way of rating both internally and by clients/partners. I'd come to the conclusion I was going to have to write an application, then, while looking through the web 2.0 list I noticed Pligg , the name made me take another look at the site and their introduction goes like this: "What is Pligg?. Pligg is Web 2.0 Content Management System (CMS) unlike any other existing CMS. Pligg's Web 2.0 user interface gives your visitors a reason to come back to your site by making them decide on the site's content and giving them the chance to social network. By giving users the ability to collaboratively submit and dismiss articles, you are offering an experience that users are happy to take part in on a daily basis." CMS really under sells what Pligg is, after I downloaded it, grappled with the install and tested it out I was amazed. What a 'different' application it is, yes it manages content but not like any other content management system I've seen. Anyone can add news, only news voted to a certain level hits the front page, it has a neat search function, tag cloud (presently buggy and not working in my install), categories, comments, trackbacks, voting, user registration and much more, take a look here http://web2.combtail.com not much added but there is another 600 sites to go I think the guys at Pligg maybe want to think of a different way of describing what they have, it is social cms and a lot more.

| Aye, good to see Pligg receiving a well-deserved appreciation. When someone likes an app and says it's undersold, you know you're on the right track. |
