Call for Pligg CSS Redesign

Undoubtedly, many of you have seen the digg.com flame posts about the pligg CSS file being a direct copy of digg's. We have been spending all of our time working on improving the code that I really didn't notice that the Plicc CSS code is very much identicle of digg.com's css file. In our defense, we have not designed or altered the CSS file much since we first translated Meneame in December. The Pligg template has remained nearly unchanged from it's original source and has been begging for a visual overhaul. Not only do we need to redesign the css file to be less-digg-like, but we should also make Pligg look a heck of a lot prettier while we're at it. I have been wanting to do this myself for the past week, but I haven't had the spare time to take on the project. That's why I'm calling on you Pliggers to help us in creating a new Pligg style.

Not only does the CSS file need to be altered, but the graphics should be tweaked to look sleeker and... sexier. I have admired http://www.staralicious.com/ for their customizations, and I hope that some of you turn to that site for inspiration. This project is extremely important and needs to be finished ASAP. Some major figures have been under some major heat for using the Pligg code because of this CSS problem. This particular figure has in a way pointed his finger at Pligg and blamed us for purposely stealing the digg CSS and using it. The truth is that the CSS file used currently was not created by anyone working for Pligg, but rather the original Meneame author. The Pligg CSS file has remained unchanged since it was first released by Ricardo Galli of Meneame.net back in December. It seems that Meneame.net has just recently (a few hours ago after the digg story came to be) updated his css so that it would not conflict so much with digg. If I'm wrong about any of this, please correct me... I tend to be wrong a lot this late at night.

Back to the point of this post. We are desperately seeking CSS and Image submissions for a new look for Pligg. Anything submitted will be greatly appreciated by myself and the community. Attach any submissions as a zip or rar file to this post.

Further to this, I do think that we need to consider other additions when redisigning the site. Properly designed css modules would greatly assist future additions.

Anyway, I'll take a look and see what I can do short term, although I wont have enough free time before the weekend.

I'll help where I can though admittedly I'm a newbie. I have tons of useless repetitive garbage in my css with all the modding I've been doing, having a properly designed one which we can reference will be very very helpful!

When you say image submissions is there any kind of artistic direction you would like to see in the way of design? Or is it carte blanche just so long as it doesn't look similar to digg?

something that would set pligg apart from similar projects is the ability to offer templates. A template library would be very appealing anyone who wants the power of pligg but wants to break away from the digg.com design.

It would be interesting to see what some of the better templaters can do to pligg. Once there is a stable release, maybe we could pool in and offer a design contest? Just a thought.

roadies: I am pretty sure it will be fairly easy with smarty (I am not sure how easy, as ive never used it before) I'm still waiting for mt domain to resolve, so I'll try it out when it does (I just bought ignitionforce.com, meh, only name i could come up with)

however, i'm fairly certian that you mean template MANAGMENT system, as in, a directory called "templates" whihc you upload subdirectories to, which will add a new option in the admin panel. I can see that working, all depending if smarty uses a template structure (.tpl or .php or .html or hatever, file stored template files)

i have some suggestions too, will psot them in appropriate forum.
