This is a great article, however not everything will work the same with the release of .9.0. Anyone want to update it and point out what has changed?

Hi guys,

It should all work on v9.9.0 i tested on our setup and seemed all okay.

We have changed the code a little for the SEO page titles that can be found in our forums. It seems to be working better and cuts out the step of changing search text within the admin section

I added al the suggestions in the article.

I have a couple of questions.

1. My URLs are now showing underscores and dashes, i.e. Bare Choons - Sneaky Trick for Accessing the Web / Top Stumbles

Is this normal?

2. My sitemap xml doesn't show any sitemap, below is its content:

Quote:
<sitemapindex>

<sitemap>
<loc>http://www.topstumbles.com/sitemap-0.xml</loc>
<lastmod>2008-01-05</lastmod>
</sitemap>

<sitemap>
<loc>http://www.topstumbles.com/sitemap-pages.xml</loc>
</sitemap>
</sitemapindex>
Any ideas?

Geoserv.

When using the hyphen fix "-" in place of the underscore, all previous titles in the database will not be affected by the change... only newly created titles will start using the hyphen fix. So yes, it's normal to have some titles that are still using the underscore (_) in their titles because they have already been written to the database. If this bothers you, then all you need to do is modify the title from the admin section and press save, then it should now display the new title with hyphens instead of the underscore. But I wouldn't do that if I were you, as it would create duplicate content. Just leave the old urls the way they are.

As for the sitemap, the link you are viewing is the sitemap index, which displays all the sitemap files google will index. If you copy and paste one of the xml links displayed, such as http://www.topstumbles.com/sitemap-0.xml, then you will see stories, links, etc.

The next release will include many SEO fixes and a way to 'convert' old stories to the new format, and the ability to redirect 'old style' URL's to new so old URL's will show a '301 Redirect'.

That's awesome! This is exactly why I am waiting for the 1.0 release to come out before upgrading a few of my sites. I am satisfied with the performance of 9.82 and my sites are doing well now without any bugs. From what I saw, 9.9 didn't appear that much different -- at least, not enough for me to want to upgrade and AGAIN apply all of my SEO fixes/mods to my tpl files.

I will launch a new site with 9.9 -- but save the rest for v1.0. :-)
