This should help ANY version of pligg. The next release will have this plus some other index improvements, plus a decrease in the amount of queries that Pligg uses. I don't know when the release will be.

So can I safely do this for now? alter table pligg_links add index(link_status);

If the next update, do I have to drop this index? and how to drop it with mysql querry?

Don't sweat it, just try it. Adding an index to a table can't hurt anything.

To drop an index just do:

drop index index_name on tbl_name
